CHEESE HOUSE GALLERY SEPTEMBER EXHIBITION
“Of the Mountains”

Banner Elk, NC   September 8, 2008 – Roberta Nosti’s  paintings herald the bright hues of Autumn for her exhibition at the Cheese House Gallery in Banner Elk, September 11 – 27.  A selection of large and small pieces are on display, both originals and prints. Many have been executed in her signature dye on silk style, which she explains “provides transparency and vibrant colors similar to watercolors.”

Local art lovers may be familiar with Nosti’s hand painted silk garments, which she says she still loves to make but has little time for now that she is painting landscapes on silk.  She has worked with the fabric as a medium for her artistic expression for twenty years, and describes painting on silk as being “like moving from one sealed chamber of the spirit to another.”  Nosti says, “I’m not after realism, but rather the mood, the atmosphere, and the music of the mountains.”  The Craft Heritage Trails guide describes her as a “zen master” of the ancient technique of painting on silk.

A High Country artist for more than thirty years, Nosti earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of South Florida, and has studied at Penland School of Crafts and the Tampa Bay Art Center. Her studio is located in Linville.  Her work can also be seen at the Parkway Craft Center, Blowing Rock; Morning Star Gallery, Blowing Rock; Miya Gallery, Weaverville; Wickwire Gallery, Hendersonville; Folk Art Center on the Blue Ridge Parkway;  and at the Guild Crafts, Asheville.  An opening reception for the Cheese House Gallery exhibition will take place Thursday, September 11, from 5 – 8 PM.  The public is invited.

A project of the Avery County Arts Council, the Cheese House Gallery is located at 630 Shawneehaw Avenue (Hwy. 184) in Banner Elk.  Gallery Hours are 11 AM – 4 PM Monday through Friday, and 11 AM – 3 PM on Saturdays.
