Cheese House Gallery October 2009: Germaine Galjour makes a  “Return Engagement”

Germaine Galjour

Banner Elk – As the Autumn leaves reach full glory, Banner Elk prepares for another busy Fall schedule.  Preparations for festivals, bike races, and the gathering of families are happening all around us.  As nature transforms the mountains, we invite you to take a walk along the newly finished Banner Elk Greenway.  While on your journey please stop in at the Cheese House Arts Gallery and check out our new exhibit by artist Germaine Galjour.

Germaine is a self-taught artist of French-Cajun Descent.  Her family is originally from New Orleans, but she has travelled extensively and lived in New York and Europe.  Galjour spent many years in New Orleans painting in Jackson Square, and was working there when Hurricane Katrina’s disastrous winds blew through. She relocated to Bakersville, and has taken up with the art scene in Western North Carolina with enthusiasm.  However, she still keeps New Orleans in her heart. Currently, she is donating twelve of her whimsical art prints to the Warren Easton Charter School Foundation’s forthcoming auction.  The auction will help generate funds for one of the oldest and most historic high schools in New Orleans.

Germaine’s vibrant abstracts were first seen in Avery County back in February, when she exhibited her paintings alongside the found-art sculpture of DC Smith.  For this, her “Return Engagement,” she has brought a variety of artwork including giclee prints and small format paintings, with prices ranging from $45 to $1,800.  “Return Engagement” will be on exhibit until Saturday, October 31, at the Cheese House Gallery, 630 Shawneehaw Avenue (Hwy 184), in Banner Elk.  Gallery hours are 10 – 4, Monday through Friday, and Saturdays by appointment.  The gallery will be open on Saturday, October 24, from noon to 5 as part of the Greater Avery Tour d’Art, the county wide gallery open house.
