“Celebration”

Banner Elk, NC   November 6, 2008 – The ten artists of ARTMIX have collaborated on the theme of “Celebration” for their latest exhibition – an appropriate sentiment for this month of Thanksgiving which heralds the joyous season.  Now on display at the T. Allen Dickson Gallery in the Cannon Hospital, Linville, are artworks by Orna Bentor, Cindy Breden, Anne Burgess, Amy Cooke, Judy Humphrey, Kim Lewis, Judy McNeil, Betty Powell, Marianne Suggs, and Barbara Timberman. 

Each artist goes her own way when it comes to medium and interpretation.  Media employed in this show include water color, acrylic, pastels, fibers, digital manipulation, Polaroid transfer, and collage.  Kim Lewis’ “Celebration of Survival” reflects the various stages of diagnosis and treatment, a focus of her art since her 2005 diagnosis of advanced breast cancer.   Marianne Suggs’ “Appalachian Celebration Series” displays her deep love and respect for our landscape of gentle mountains and ancient rivers.  Barbara Timberman honors the glories of a mountain summer with her “Celebration of Summer, Gone But Not Forgotten” series, and Judy Humphrey’s “Nowhere to Hide” series celebrates the simple beauty of nature that offers a quiet, soothing respite from an increasingly uncertain and stressful world.
