The T. Alan Dickson Gallery at Cannon Memorial Hospital March 2008 | Art by Chris Carr on Exhibit at Cannon Hospital Banner Elk, NC March 10, 2008 – The T. Alan Dickson Gallery at Cannon Memorial Hospital in Linville features the stone lithography prints of Chris Carr during the month of March. The exhibit is sponsored by the Avery County Arts Council (AAC). The twelve works on display present a study in human emotion. Artist Carr explains, “I work in black and white to create stark contrasts, and use a wide range of gray tones to provide transitions and subtle skin tones. Stone lithography is a wonderful medium for drawing. The natural and characteristic strengths of lithography make it a very expressive medium for portraits.” Carr has focused his art studies on painting and printmaking; he received a MFA from the University of Texas at Austin in Studio Art. In addition, Carr is the Co-Technical Director and Scenic Designer for the Performing Arts Division at Lees-McRae College. He also teaches beginning and intermediate painting at the college. The Avery County Arts Council is a non-profit organization that strives to enrich the people of Avery County through meaningful arts and cultural experiences. For more than 30 years the council has supported schools in their art programs and served as a resource for local artists and the community.
