The T. Alan Dickson Gallery at Cannon Memorial Hospital April 2009 |
Artwork from the fresh, young imaginations of school children brighten the walls this month at the Dickson Gallery, Cannon Memorial Hospital. From acrylic to charcoal, creativity is displayed in a variety of media which Avery Art teachers have introduced to their students. Participating schools are: Crossnore Academy, Michelle Gouge, instructor; Cranberry Middle and Freedom Trail Elementary, Charlene Trestain, instructor; Cranberry Middle and Avery High, Teresa Storie, instructor; Avery High, Mickey Banner, instructor; Banner Elk Elementary and Crossnore Elementary, Stephanie Jones, instructor; and Newland Elementary, Freda Greene, instructor. Avery County school children receive one hour of instruction from an Art teacher per week. Cannon Memorial Hospital and the Arts Council will host a reception on behalf of the young artists on Tuesday, April 14, from 5 – 6:30 PM, at the hospital. Students and their families have received invitations through their schools. Light refreshments will be served and certificates of participation will be presented. The Avery County Arts Council is a non-profit organization working to enrich the people of Avery County through meaningful arts and cultural experiences.
